Wednesday of this past week, the 28th of August, Jack 'King' Kirby--- were he still with us--- would've celebrated his 102nd B-day! Generally acknowledged as pretty much the co-creator of MOST of the Marvel comics universe--- Mr. Kirby, and his unique style of telling an action-packed-story-in-pictures--- has ALWAYS had a special place in the 'ol Loydster's heart!
Was his art perfect? The obvious answer is-- Not so much! But NOBODY could give the comics page as much LIFE as Jack did!
Between the likewise legendary Gil Kane and Mr. Kirby, some of the most dynamic, action-packed covers in ALL of comics were produced for Marvel back in the 70s! That's my personal favorite time in Marvel comics history!--- because I was EXACTLY the right age to enjoy that sort of thing! I still have some of those comics! the ones I bought, just for the REALLY COOL 'Kirby covers'! Like, say for example----

During his lifetime, he really didn't get the FULL recognition and credit he deserved. It's nice to see a lot of that being straightened out, with Mr. Kirby finally being recognized as the comics LEGEND he's ALWAYS been, to all of us HARD-CORE GEEK-A-ZOIDS, anyway!
So---- Happy 102nd birthday-- to the one and ONLY, 'King of comics' himself, Mr. Jack kirby! A true master of the art of storytelling!
